Hangar flying is a favorite pastime of many pilots. Swapping “fish tales,” judging the takeoffs and landings of other pilots, and sharing each other’s “yikes!” moments while sitting in the comfort and safety of a hangar or an FBO is a time-honored tradition—a way of passing along sage advice from one pilot to the next.
The stories in YIKES!… are true, taken from NASA reports—the FAA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System database—where pilots voluntarily and anonymously share their moments of bad judgment with the rest of us. I analyzed their stories in my General Aviation News column, “Human Factors.” The chapters in YIKES!… are curated from my column. YIKES!… is entertaining, educational and inspirational for pilots and non-pilots alike.
