AN UNLIKELY PERSPECTIVE

Climate Champion, Falon Tabares is not just CEO of The Healthy Earth Organization, she’s also climate change lifestyle curator. To wit, she’s host of Unlikely Perspective. Touted as “The future of food, people and nature. Tabares wants to inspire you to conserve planet Earth for future and current generations. How? By teaching us what steps to take in our own communities to help the climate through this online magazine.

According to its own press, Unlikely Perspective focuses many aspects of life that climate change is affecting, including soil, wildlife, farming, architecture, green careers, and even lifestyle. Tabares and her team curate content unique to the climate change lifestyle. 

Bless her heart. There isn’t much content on an Unlikely Perspective just yet, but we see where she’s going. It’s long been my contention that nobody on Earth has ever lived through climate change, so nobody on the planet really knows how to thrive in the era of climate change. But if somebody, or a group of somebodies—people expert in one field of climate adaptation, sustainability, science, mitigation or resilience, for example, were to join forces, we might all learn how to get through this thing that’s going to be with us for the rest of all of our lives, living and yet-to-be-born.

PAUL HAWKEN’S LATEST BOOK, REGENERATION: ENDING THE CLIMATE CRISIS IN ONE GENERATION

Paul Hawken has done it again. A few years ago, Hawken published Drawdown, a book he edited offering proof that humans are able to reduce greenhouse gas concentrations in Earth’s atmosphere through use of solutions that are 1) currently available, 2) growing in scale, 3) financially viable, 4) able to have a net positive impact, and 5) quantifiable under different scenarios. All we have to do is act, on a massive scale.

Now he’s come out with Regeneration: Ending the Climate Crisis in One Generation. According to its publisher, Regeneration offers a visionary new approach to climate change, one that weaves justice, climate, biodiversity, equity, and human dignity into a seamless tapestry of action, policy, and transformation that can end the climate crisis in one generation. It’s the first book to describe and define the burgeoning regeneration movement spreading rapidly throughout the world.

More to the point, Hawken describes in detail doable  initiatives that include but go well beyond solar, electric vehicles, and tree planting to include such solutions as the fifteen-minute city, bioregions, azolla fern, food localization, fire ecology, decommodification, forests as farms, and the number one solution for the world: electrifying everything.

And in typical Paul Hawken style, there isn’t just a book. There’s also a full scale, full system support under the name Regeneration Organization. The nonprofit launched a series of projects to accompany the book, including a streaming video series, curriculum, podcasts, teaching videos, and climate action software. 

The San Francisco Chronicle writes, “Regeneration covers an impressively broad range of topics from food safety to the war industry, electric vehicles to mangroves, which serves to demonstrate how all-encompassing the challenge is.” Why does Regeneration: Ending the Climate Crisis in One Generation matter to us? Because the solutions are simple and informative. Those of us who feel the weight of the crisis will find the book both clarifying and helpful.

PROJECT REGENERATION

And of course we have to tell you all about Project Regeneration! According to the Project Regeneration website, “Regeneration puts life at the center of every action and decision. It applies to all of life—grasslands, farms, insects, forests, fish, wetlands, coastlands, and oceans—and it applies equally to family, communities, cities, schools, religion, commerce, and governments. And most spectacularly to climate.”

It’s mission is to bring humanity into alignment with the living world in order to end the climate crisis in one generation. It is a response to the urgency of the climate crisis, a growing set of interlocking initiatives that unlock our collective agency. Why does the Regeneration Organization and Project Regeneration matter to us? As their website says, “The heating planet is our commons. It holds us all. To address and reverse warming requires connection and reciprocity. It calls for moving out of our comfort zones to find a depth of courage we may have never known. It calls for action that is bold and fearless.” 

Project Regeneration provides us with those ways to act boldly and fearlessly. How? Resources. For example, the website is home to Nexus, touted as “the world’s largest listing of climate solutions and how to get them done.” We cannot independently verify the veracity of that statement, but we can confirm Nexus has a list of 30 different solutions-oriented subjects including Agroecology, Education of Girls, Fifteen Minute City and Ocean Farming.

We have the Deeper Dive section at The Climate Daily. They have the Dig Deeper section. I offers a subsection called, “Cascade of Solutions”—exploring regenerative solutions and how they’re all connected, as well as “Frameworks for Action”—and its six priorities: Equity; reduce; protect; sequester; influence; and support. The website also offers up a climate action community where folks can work on problems, make commitments and share ideas.
