IN COMMUNITY ACTION NEWS, FUTURE FOR NATURE

I have to say, making The Climate Daily podcast every day has revealed one very specific throughline about climate change activism for me–There is no shortage of people willing to reward young people fighting climate change.

For instance, here’s another one: FutureforNature.org.  The Future For Nature Foundation (FFN) supports young, talented, and ambitious nature conservationists committed to protecting species of wild animals and plants.

According to its website, FFN believes in the power of the individual. So it works actively to find and nurture a new generation of nature conservationists who we believe make the difference for the future of nature: Natural leaders who inspire and with their drive and ‘stubbornness’ achieve impressive results.

Future for Nature sponsors the annual Future For Nature Award. It’s an international award celebrating tangible achievements in protecting wild animal and plant species by three individuals.

The Future For Nature aims to:

  • Reward and fund individuals for their outstanding efforts in the protection of species of wild animals and plants
  • Stimulate Award winners to sustain their dedicated work
  • Help winners to raise their profile, extend their professional network and strengthen their funding basis

Each winner receives 50,000 euro (about $58K USD) and the prestigious FFN Award. The winners may spend the money at their own discretion in the service of nature conservation. Winners gain

  • a platform to bring their stories to the attention of conservationists, financiers and a wide audience, allowing them to increase their impact and gain more access to funds.
  • And an extra stage via the Future For Nature Academy. The FFN Academy spreads the inspiration and dedication of FFN Award winners and other conservation heroes on to a growing network of students and young graduates across the Netherlands, to fuel this young generation’s passion for nature conservation.

Applications for 2022 are closed, but check back in summer 2022 when 2023 FFN awards application window opens.

1MILLIONWOMEN.COM

Over one million women are fighting climate change through their everyday lives. Coincidentally, that’s also the motto of 1MillionWomen.com.

The organization was founded by Natalie Isaacs back  in 2009. Isaacs was a business owner whose products were often over-packaged in plastic. She was loving life, content to let somebody else solve climate change. In her own words, when “I got our household electricity consumption down by 20% and when I saw that I had saved a heap of money and carbon pollution I realized I was powerful. At that very moment I took ownership of the issue. I realized every single thing we do shapes the kind of world we want to live in.”

That thought has resonated with over one million women worldwide thus far. And for the over 1 million women, the website offers many ways to use their power to help fight climate change. The website features a “Take Action” page where women share their empowerment stories. One can become a youth ambassador. Or learn how to leverage one’s financial power by calling on your bank to divest in fossil fuels, or else…

And there’s also an app, touted as “no matter where you are—a climate warrior or beginner—the power of this app is to show in real time our collective impact when we all act together.”

1MILLIONWOMEN.COM ANTHEM

The great thing about this podcast is every day, we’re discovering more and more organizations and people taking the fight to climate change. Today, it’s a group called 1 million women. 1 Million Women are women cutting carbon pollution to fight the climate crisis. And now they have an anthem to help them keep up the fight:

According to its website, “You’re The Voice”, is an anthem from women for climate action and hope, celebrating the glorious power of women to be change makers and leaders on climate action. If you’re a fan of the Australian late 60s early 70s pop idol, John Farnham, you might recognize this as an adaptation of his biggest hit, “You’re the Voice.”

And as somebody wrote, There’s never been a more important time to unite as one voice.

NATALIE ISAACS’, “EVERY WOMAN’S GUIDE TO SAVING THE PLANET”

When it came to climate change, Natalie Isaacs used to think it was someone else’s issue. After all, what can one person do to make a difference? Then she cut her electricity bill by 20 per cent and saw how much money and pollution she’d saved. Feeling empowered, she embraced action instead of apathy and changed her life. She’s never looked back. And then she wrote a book about it to help the rest of us get there, too.

In Every Woman’s Guide to Saving the Planet, Isaacs shares her journey from climate bystander to international campaigner. It’s part memoir, part toolkit by the inspiring founder of 1 million women.com, the global movement empowering women to take action on climate change.

In her own words,Every Woman’s Guide to Saving the Planet “is a practical tool kit for reducing your carbon footprint and mobilizing your community around the biggest issue of our time – climate change.” With loads of tips, tricks, easy-to-understand info graphics and an inspiring can-do message, this book is for every woman who wants to make a difference….And men, too.
