We Did It! 33 Climate Champions Helping Us Reforest the Planet, 10k Trees at a Time! Special Shoutouts to Climate Champions, and What’s Next?

FIRST CLIMATE CHAMPIONS FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN NETS 33 PEOPLE AND 10,000 TREES!

Last week, in honor of the second anniversary of The Climate Daily podcast, we launched the Climate Champions campaign. The goal was to prove that a a small group of people could make a massive impact in a short amount of time.  To get 33 folks committing to donate $3/day for four months to plant 10,000 trees–a 20-acre forest in California. The other goal was to get all 10K trees donated in one week. And guess what?! We did it! Thanks to everybody who donated and became a Climate Champion!!! Check out the green status bar at theclimate.org/change-champions to see for yourself. We promised a social media shoutout to those that joined our inaugural team of Climate Champions, but surprise! We’re also giving shoutouts, right here, right now. Well, after music, anyway…

CLIMATE CHAMPIONS SHOUT OUTS

Big thanks to Michael Abert, Dale Curtis, Liz Whisnant, Maitland Stewart, Maria Carmona, Miguel Jorge and Lesley Schaffer, Michael Abramowitz, Natalie Brundred, Rob Hagans, Scott Stewart, Tariq Nadim. Also donated in honor of John and Avril Madison. Thanks to Donald Hay, Joanne Henneberger, Kiley Cornwell, Bob Quigley, Rod and Mary Henry, Gayle Lewis, Paula Parker, Lloyd Arnold, Bob Halcomb, Nina Polk, Gary Foster and Bobby Seldon. But wait there’s more!

MORE, NEW CLIMATE CHAMPIONS TO THANK, PLUS WHAT’S NEXT?

Thank you to Julie Crouse, Ruby Helen, Clark Addams, Jim Adams (no relation) James Williams, Jack and Joan Cantrell, Marcia Johnston, Laverne Cottrell, and finally Marybeth Cromwell. Thanks to you all, and our 30+ tree planting partners, we’re about to plant 10 thousand trees, a 20-acre forest in California! What’s next for you to stay tuned to us for forest planting updates. Oh, and we do apologize. There were many of you who wanted to be in this Climate Champions campaign, but who contacted us after we’d already reached the 10K tree goal and we’d closed the campaign.

That makes us feel so appreciative. So The Climate is going to run another Climate Champions 10 thousand tree reforestation campaign soon. And this time, we’re going to expand it so more people can become Climate Champions:  a small group of people making a massive impact in a short amount of time. Stay tuned for more forest updates, and as always for more stories of people and organizations taking action to combat climate change.
